As a postdoctoral researcher, I work on WP1 of the SUBLIME project. My research specifically focuses on the corrosion domain of WP1 and aims to combine lab-based accelerated ageing studies with on-site based corrosion monitoring, inspection and protection measures. This information provides the input for a predictive framework to assess the remaining lifetime of steel infrastructures, sheet piles in particular. At the same time, it will provide better understanding of the parameters influencing the degradation process of the sheet piles and factors for potential premature ageing.
This work will be executed and discussed periodically between Arcelor Mittal, North Sea Port (NSP), Province of Zuid-Holland (PZH) and other consortium partners. The successful completion of this corrosion research work, will enable the asset owners to make optimum use of their steel infrastructure and subsequently plan their maintenance and replacement work based on bespoke on-site corrosion inspection, monitoring and protection strategies.
Being a corrosion & electrochemical enthusiast, I possess a dedicated corrosion-research expertise for the past years, where I have dedicated myself in developing a fast screening methodology for lifetime prediction of ground stored materials, employed for the fabrication of Earth Observation Satellites (EOS). This project was performed under the supervision of Prof. Arjan Mol in collaboration with Airbus Defense & Space (ADS) and funded by the European Space Agency (ESA). As a result, I am delighted and aspired to be part of this SUBLIME project, specifically focusing on the prediction of steel infrastructures of asset owners in the civil sector.
